A big one 3D printer is working to create what it believes to be the first of two-story a building built by technology in the United States.
The building is taking place in Houston, Texas. The 3D printer working on the project weighs more than 12 tons.
A 3D printer is used concrete to make the house, which will be about 371 sq. Some parts of the house will also be made of wood. Project leaders said the project is expected to take about 330 hours to complete.
That’s Leslie Lok an architect who designed the three-bedroom house and who heads the production studio HANNAH.
Lok told Reuters news agency that when building the building, the team must consider the building’s design and how it will be used. “We also design the exact printing process, like how the printer will print, where it starts and where it stops,” said Lok.
The project is a two-year partnership between HANNAH, construction company PERI 3D and CIVE, which provided technical support.
Lok said that since the press does more work, less labor is needed at the construction site. He said the effort only required four or five people to oversee the 3D printing process.

Concrete is a very strong material used in building construction and can survive hurricanes, tornadoes and other extreme weather conditions.
Roberto Montemayor is the project manager of PERI 3D Construction. He told Reuters that the large 3D printer works in the same way as the smaller printers used in homes and offices. But there are two major differences.
The first is that the 3D printer for building construction can be expanded and modified to fit the needs of each project, Montemayor said. Another difference is the products they use. “We’re printing here with concrete, which is very different from plastic.”
The building is expected to be completed in the second half of 2023. The architects say they hope that the modern method can be used in the future to build even bigger buildings. They say that this technology can also build houses quickly and with less money.
More and more American companies have started offering homes built with 3D printing technology in recent years. But so far, the houses that are being offered are very few.
Startup company Icon, based in Austin, Texas, made headlines in 2018 by completing the first 3D printed house in the US. At the time, it said the house was built in just one day.
