While layoffs and hiring freezes are taking place across the industry, growth-oriented roles are the fastest-growing jobs in marketing, sales and media, according to new LinkedIn data.
The 2023 Jobs on the Rise list, shared by Marketing Week, highlights the growing need for business in 2023, at a time when companies are worried about what’s next.
The fastest growing marketing and sales role in the UK is a customer service representative, followed by a permanent manager, a product management manager and a sales development representative.
In the fifth place is the head of economic growth, and the sales manager enters the seventh. Between the two growing roles is the business account executive.
Sales and marketing jobs are among the fastest growing jobs worldwide, vice president EMEA and Latin America at LinkedIn Talent Solutions, Olivier Sabella, tells Marketing Week.
“In times of uncertainty, it’s easy for companies to be inconsistent, but it’s important to focus on customers – to engage, provide value and keep your brand at the forefront,” he says, noting the roles that customers need. they are much appreciated amid the decline in “worldwide employment”.

Eighth on the UK direct list is a cloud engineer, followed by a business development representative.
The role of Chief People Officer is also among the fastest-growing roles, ranking 10th, ahead of data science managers in 11th. Below the list are site reliability engineer, data engineer, security analyst and project coordinator.
While the growth marketing manager is seventh in the list of the fastest growing roles in the UK, it leads the list in France. In Germany, the role of managing large growth is second on the list. Interestingly, the growth manager does not appear in the top 15 list of the fastest growing businesses and businesses in France, Germany or Australia – other countries studied.
Additionally, LinkedIn’s Workforce Confidence Index shows UK professionals’ confidence in finding a job to be “stable” year-on-year, versus unknown.
Changing tides
Back in 2021, social media coordinator was the fastest-growing role (19%) in marketing and brand jobs, according to LinkedIn data, followed by community managers (18.1%) and social media assistants (16.5%).
Two years ago, the chief marketing officer was one of the fastest growing jobs (13.8%), but in 2023 the CMO position was not in the top fifteen.
In fact, many jobs related to sales, such as general sales manager, brand director and brand specialist – all of which were placed in the top 10 in 2021 – are not visible this year.
A separate study by LinkedIn, shared at Marketing Week in September, found that digital marketing was the top marketing skill in 2022, while in 2015 social media marketing took the top spot.
Speaking at the time, the head of EMEA and LATAM at LinkedIn’s B2B Institute, Mimi Turner, was encouraged to see a “solid concentration” of talent.
“What we’re seeing is now a lot of salespeople who have 360 tools. You have to have technical skills, technical skills, these ideas, these good ideas, content skills,” he said.
“Marketers have responded by having enough skills. It’s like if you break your leg and start over, our skills are based on using this as a reality.”
