Pints for a Purpose to benefit coalition
BAXTER – Jack Pine Brewery’s Pints for a Purpose event from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, in Baxter will benefit My Neighbor to Love Coalition.
Jack Pine Brewery will donate $1 for every pint sold during the event. Pizza from Papa Murphy’s will also be served.
Members will be available to answer questions about the group’s activities. The brewery is located at 15593 Edgewood Drive in Baxter.
The Ripple Center in Aitkin hosts a variety of events
AITKIN – Shake off the cold winter vibes in January and warm up your soul with music that will get your toes tapping at The Ripple Center, in downtown Aitkin.
“Having the opportunity to bring such talent to The Ripple Center in downtown Aitkin, this long-term gathering has been a real accomplishment.” Dwight Marwede, owner of The Ripple Center, said in a press release.
JPACK will perform at 7 pm on Friday, Jan. 20. Also included on the January calendar is a reissue of Mike and Jan Cherry, a Minnesota country music duo. He will perform at 2pm and 4pm Jan. 27.
“Creating this space to welcome the entertainment and culture of our community is what The Ripple Center is all about,” Marwede said in a news release.

Learn to swim at the Northland Arboretum
BAXTER – The Nordic Ski Club will hold adult ski lessons at 2 pm on Sunday, Jan. 22, at the Northland Arboretum. This time coincides with youth skiing lessons, so it’s a good time for parents of the youth ski program to learn as well, according to officials.

Deep Portage hosts five annual meetings
HACKENSACK – Winter is here, and it’s here! That means the 44th annual Winter Rendezvous is right next to the Deep Portage Learning Center.
This family-friendly event will be from 10 am-2 pm on Saturday, Jan. 21, at Deep Portage in Hackensack. Cost is $5 per adult or $3 per child under 12.
There will be a variety of activities including ax throwing, ice fishing, trap shooting, northern tree bending, bird watching and more. Earn points by participating in each event and be sure to attend the awards ceremony to see the final results.
Hot chili peppers will be served at lunch from noon to 1 p.m. Lunch costs $5 per adult or $3 per child.

Books, Burgers & Brews meet at Nisswa brewery
NISSWA – Books, Burgers & Brews will meet from 6-8 pm on Monday, Jan. 23, at the Roundhouse Brewery in Nisswa to discuss “The Night That Was Lost” with Lisa Jewell.
“One beautiful summer night in a picturesque English countryside, a girl and her boyfriend go missing after attending a big party for their new college friend,” according to the synopsis.
Copies of the book are available at the Brainerd Public Library front desk by asking for the January Books, Burgers & Brews issue. Library books are first come, first served.
“One year later, the author moved to a small house on the edge of the forest that is on the border of the same place. The dense forest is a place where the author likes to go on long walks and … comes across a mysterious voice that simply reads, ‘STOP HERE,’” according to the description.
