HONOLULU – The Hawai’i Department of Health (DOH) will participate in an opening ceremony on Thursday, January 19, regarding the ongoing efforts to clean up and close the Red Hill Bulk Fuel Storage Facility (RHBFSF).
An open house will be held at the O‛ahu Veterans Center at 1298 Kukila Street from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. DOH will present an update to its Emergency Order requiring the Navy to cut fuel and close the RHBFSF. DOH will also share information on long-term drinking water plans and environmental monitoring.
DOH will no participate in the town hall on Wednesday, January 18 regarding the 2023 Consent Order for the downsizing and closing of the RHBFSF because the DOH is no party to the Consent Order.
The DOH chose not to enter into the Consent Order and risk the authority to implement their Emergency Order. Instead, DOH will continue to protect Hawai‛i’s people and natural resources by enforcing the Emergency Order.
The Consent Order is a proposed decision to terminate the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the US Department of the Navy (Navy), and the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA).
