Bollywood singer and screenwriter Javed Akhtar was born to poet Jan Nisar Akhtar and Safiya Siraj-ul Haq. But his mother died when he was very young, and he did not get along with his stepmother, because he never lived with his father. In a recent interview with the BBC, Javed Akhtar spoke about his strained relationship with his late father.
He said that although his father was a great poet, he failed as a parent. He said: “Sometimes children complain about their fathers.” But a man cannot be everything. He was a poet and often a person of his age is irresponsible in other aspects of life. So, maybe he was. He was a good poet but failed in other roles. “
The former songwriter spent only 2-3 years of his childhood with his parents and siblings. After his mother died, he was raised by his grandmother. Javed also said that after his mother died, his father remarried. He said: “A few years after my mother died, Akhtar saab (referring to his father) remarried, because he was young and it is difficult to be alone.
However, Javed did not have a good relationship with his stepmother. “I didn’t get along well with my stepmother, so we didn’t live together. When I moved to Mumbai, I did not live with my father. I used to go to meet him at his house like other guests,” said the singer.
Javed Akhtar, along with his old friend Salim Khan, made famous gangster films like Gabbar from Sholay and Mogambo from India. Recently, he released a new book, called Talking Life. The composer, who is married to actress Shabana Azmi, is the father of filmmakers Farhan Akhtar and Zoya Akhtar.
