Mammography and medical services were moved to the main campus of UnityPoint Health – Trinity Regional Medical Center in an effort to create a more efficient and cost-effective patient care environment.
The change in services was one of the most visible changes at Fort Dodge Hospital in 2022.
In the past year, the hospital has been recognized internationally for its orthopedic care and became the first in Iowa to receive DNV Hip and Knee Replacement Program Certification.
That certification recognizes excellence in hip and knee surgery and related procedures, including diagnosis, surgery and treatment.
Integration and structural changes
For years, patients who needed medical care had to go to the Highland Park Center on South 25th Street.
Meanwhile, women had to go to the Norma Schmoker Women’s Center across Kenyon Road from the hospital to get mammograms and other services.
All of that ended in November.
After many months of renovations, rehabilitation and maternity services were opened in the main hospital building.
Trinity Rehabilitation was opened inside the hospital near Entrance C at the back of the main building.
The Norma Schmoker Imagining Center opened on the second floor of the Atrium in front of the main building. It has UnityPoint Clinic Obstetrics and Gynecology, making it one of the most important areas in women’s health.
Other visible changes to the hospital building include the reopening of Entrance C. It is the entrance for patients who use it to go to Trinity Lymphedema, Trinity Rehabilitation and the Wound Center.
Also, the Diabetes Center moved. It can now be accessed through the front door of the main building, west of the main entrance.
The reward is the honor
The hospital and its staff received many honors last year.
In addition to the hip and knee replacement certificate, medical honors included:
• 2021 Patient Experience Award courtesy of UnityPoint Clinic Express Care Provider.
• Center of Distinction Award for Trinity Wound Healing Center.
The American Heart Association awards awards for heart and stroke care.
• National accreditation of the Norma Schmoker Cancer Center from the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons.
