Dark Things Selects Brompton Technology 4K Tessera Sx40 4K LED Processors for Studio Complex
Dark Matters is one of Europe’s leading creative industries. From Simulcam technology and LED in-camera VFX to motion capture, it offers filmmakers and videographers an end-to-end workflow and unparalleled control right up to the final shot. After hearing only good things from Brompton Technology LED processing partners, the Dark Matters team selected ten 4K Tessera SX40 4K LED processors for their complex studio.
Dark Matters was founded last year by industry veterans Romain Cheminade, Jean-Louis Eude and Yaniss Boulanouar. Located 27 kilometers outside of Paris, the facility has six customizable spaces spread over 15,000m², with a 700-strong array of high-quality LED panels powered by Brompton Technology LED technology.
“At the front of every story is a human story,” says Cheminade, who is also Dark Matters’ director. “We spoke to people we know and trust who have been working with Brompton for years. They all spoke highly of their Tessera LED processors and 24/7 support, so we decided to invest in them and have not regretted our decision.”
The company’s LED panels are designed and described by co-founder and CTO, Boulanouar, who has over 20 years of experience working with Chinese LED manufacturers to design and install LED panels for live and broadcast events. With one of the requirements for Dark Matters’ LED stock to be rich, Boulanouar chose panels with a depth of 16-bit, 7680Hz refresh rate and 2.6mm pixel pitch. Together with the industry’s ‘gold-standard’ Brompton LED processing, they offer excellent visibility, especially in the dark and in bright light. “Our main goal was to get as close to reality as possible, which is why we chose LED panels powered by Brompton’s Tessera processors to give us a variety of colors,” recalls Boulanouar.
Our largest section, the ‘Dark Space’, is approximately 4,000m² and is designed for large productions; we could even put a commercial plane in the room!” laments Partouche, VP Virtual Production at Dark Matters. “The other five levels are different in size and are opaque, and all the stairs have a solid concrete floor that can weigh up to 10 tons per square meter , with high ceilings that easily exceed 12 meters, making them ideal for any type of space. about production. “
What makes Dark Matters unique in the ever-growing creative space is its comprehensive, end-to-end approach to providing support during the preview, techvis and pitchvis projects. “When a client comes to us with a project, we start by seeing their vision during the preview. Then we help them create the sequences, fine-tuning them to match the director’s vision well before we start shooting,” Partouche explains.
“Our team of artists has years of experience in film, animation and video games,” adds Cheminade. “This means that we can provide as much or as little support, advice and technical support as our customers need to achieve their vision. Providing support with real-time video game production, high-quality animation, VR and videography and event visualization is some of the ways we can help.”
According to Mr. Cheminade, one of the biggest things his team can do is to use things properly. “There are a lot of products that are made for the preview part. We try to push the quality of the product to use in Simulcam, and then we push the quality to use the product on the LED wall. Brompton’s Tessera program helps here by providing advanced management technology for the LED wall, including the use of easy work and excellent images. By doing this, we create seamless pipelines between all services and departments involved in production.”
With a large LED installation that includes a screen 25m long and six meters high, Dark Matters’ LED panel stock can be used as a whole as a large volume, or it can be divided into smaller LED configurations for different stages of production.
“We made sure that for every LED installation we had enough Brompton processors to take full advantage of Tessera features such as HFR+, Ultra Low Latency, Frame Remapping, ShutterSync and Dark Magic,” Cheminade adds. “What I love about the Brompton is that you know it’s always going to do what you want. When you’re shooting you can’t have technical issues, so using reliable equipment like Brompton’s Tessera SX40 LED processors is essential to everything we do.
“Dark Matters is a great example of the coming together of smart ideas to create a unique studio and service for its customers,” concludes Dries Vermeulen, Business Development Manager (Europe) at Brompton Technology. “It’s great to see a young business bringing so much technology and experience to the industry. We’re delighted that the team chose Brompton LED processing to power their cutting-edge LED. Dark Matters is one of the most innovative companies showing the evolution of real-time technology, and we’re delighted to be joining them on this exciting journey.” !
