Today, Saturday Night Live it’s not the center of the universe, but in the most divisive realm of pop culture, it’s probably the closest we’ve got. Think about the modern lifestyle that has affected it – whether it’s people watching or checking in on a Sunday morning for a water cooler. Happy kids volunteering to sleep outside (though it is changing!) for Online Most share the experience. In a show so devoted to its traditions and rhythms, there is a whole universe that takes the cartoons and laughs like endless rain in a paper cup.
But it’s 2023, and there’s more SNL would do to benefit the fandom. Maybe it’s something like the “Anyone Can Get It” contest or acknowledging the kinds of campaigns that started Betty White on the show. Or how can I call a bad “Live From Mardi Gras” moment in time?
That brings us – round the corner – to tonight’s host, Aubrey Plaza. The White Lotus star (and former April Ludgate) once worked as a website for NBC and blew up the investigation of SNL at UBC early in his career; he also worked SNL as a student in the art department in 2004 and 2005 and appeared on the vacation of the show performed by Justin Timberlake as an extra. It’s a fun story, and the kind of sub-par cast I wish the show had more of.
I was contacted tonight by an ex SNL member of Matthew Laurance, who is saddened by the departure of Cecily Strong. (Aren’t we all?) As for leaving the band, he said: “It’s a big hole.” I can’t say enough about how much I love Cecily Strong. Saturday Night Live but he watched it again from the first episode with George Carlin, the way I judge people on the show is: history. For me, Cecily Strong and Kate McKinnon are masters at what they do. I don’t use that word very often. They would have been incredible on any team SNL. I was devastated when Kate McKinnon left, and I was devastated when Cecily Strong left. He was brilliant – a lot of talent and versatility. I don’t know how you can change that.” He said.

Rosalind O’Connor/NBC Aubrey Plaza on ‘Saturday Night Live’
Cold open
The Fox Sports broadcast team is launched. That impressive title sets the stage – this sounded like a real game after the Eagles-Giants game that lasted only a few minutes.
Howie Long (Mikey Day) has glasses so he’s smart. Michael Strahan plays Devon Walker (Jay Pharoah previously played the Giants star). And Terry Bradshaw is played by Molly Kearney. They discuss how dangerous football is. From the current game, Laurance is a fan of Day. There are some technical difficulties here.
Controversial Congressman George Santos is introduced as a field reporter. Bowen Yang plays Santos. (Amazing, ancient SNL star Jon Lovitz just played Santos The Tonight Show this week.) He interrupts Pam Oliver (Ego Nwodim) in a difficult way, claiming that he has won the prize for the toughest tuck.
Little by little, without talking about difficulties, towards the real world.
Monologue
Conducting SNL it’s Aubrey Plaza’s dream — and yes, she really means it! She feels that people often mistake her for a weirdo and make fun of her because of her appearance. There are several criminals of his fake family to be in the audience.
He talks about his work SNL back in the day, and offers to return to its roots and take the audience on a journey, wearing one of the retro jackets. He was a “bad page,” as evidenced when he received a phone call from Paul McCartney. Another example is when Kenan Thompson appears – he ordered Starbucks from him in 2004 and is still waiting.
Here’s a fun surprise: Amy Poehler makes an appearance on the tour! He appeared for the last time SNL in the year 2020. Plaza steals her bag and takes off before reuniting with the old production team. He wants her to kneel before him. Overall, a little inconsistent – as he says in the front, his appearance can be misleading where the laughter should be, and it looks like a coward.
Laurance says: “I think Aubrey Plaza is great, she’s a great host choice. She’s an amazing actress. White Lotus, I didn’t know him well. When I visited him on Google, I was amazed at all that he had done – Parks & Rec, and everything else. She is a helluva actress and that’s why Saturday Night Live it is perfect for him. People should see that side again later White Lotus. This will be an amazing surprise.
The Miss Universe pageant
Miss Universe is brought to you by 80 for Brady. Contestants – judged by their appearance – shout out their answers. The real competition took place last week. Tony Hawk and the Property Brothers are the judges. Indeed, the French version went viral for screeching.
Laurance says this about Kenan, who plays an actor: “What I love about him is every character he does, he has that kind of face. Other people couldn’t do that. He does, everybody. He’s a real talent.”
Matthew Laurance is also a huge fan of Heidi Gardner – she has a great moment here as Miss Belgium sums up her favorite part. It’s / Tuck.
Black Lotus
This is the most surprising of the latest season of White Lotus. Employees don’t have time for anyone’s nonsense. Don’t you dare bring ideas!
It’s really funny to watch the different characters and musical scenes get messed up here. I loved seeing Sarah Sherman as Haley Lu Richardson. Fans of the series should dig this!
“Chloe [Fineman], the child is fine. When they did Jennifer Coolidge, it was disgusting, “said Laurance. Yes, Fineman is breaking. Laurance was not a big fan of the latest HBO series: “White Lotus, the first season. it was really fun. I wasn’t a big fan of the second season. Obviously, it’s really popular. I felt like in the first season there were some funny moments, the second season was really sad for me! Everything about it I was like, ‘Can we lighten up here, somebody?’ It’s written as a comedy!”
Taboo
Mikey Day and Plaza are a new family being introduced to the neighborhood by playing the friendly game of Taboo. They do well – except their answers are very confusing. He is a sociopath. The night they met they caught fire. Plaza makes fun of their quiet daughter. Plaza and Day work together. This is very common, but it has good power.
