SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – The Storm Lake Fire Department has implemented new programs to help keep the community safe.
Community Connect is a new app that allows the department to view useful information provided by residents or businesses.
It gives the community an opportunity to share information about their homes or businesses that could save lives.
“It gives us access to information that we might not otherwise have. Let’s say your grandmother lives with you, she’s disabled and has trouble walking. She lives on the third floor in the west bedroom, if for some reason, you’re not home or you don’t have power there’s a fire or an emergency, we’ll have that information and we can draw people in. especially in that area,” said Storm Lake Fire Chief Glen Schlesser.
This is just one example of how useful this program can be.
It allows the user to provide access codes, locations of gas and water lines, pets that live in the home, and more.
These program changes will help serve Storm Lake and the surrounding area.
“Right now, we have about 100 people and businesses signed up so far, and obviously we’re trying to expand that. It’s open to anyone who lives in the city of Storm Lake, the city of Truesdale, the city of Lakeside, Washington, Grant, and Hayes, as well as the rural areas of Buena Vista County,” Schlesser said.
Chief Schlesser said all information provided is protected by bank encryption and is secure.
If you live in an area that may use the app, you can find a link on the city’s website or the fire department’s social media website, which you can find links to in this article.
The program was first introduced at the beginning of the year.
