Boston Mayor Michelle Wu on Tuesday announced a new Director of Tourism, Sports and Entertainment for the city, as officials work to create a team that welcomes meetings, events, conferences and festivals.
Mayor Wu announced that John Border IV will fill the role, described as the head of a “department of importance” within the Economic Opportunity and Inclusion Cabinet Committee.
“As Boston grows and welcomes people from around the world, we look to the center and show the excitement of our communities,” said Mayor Wu. “I thank John for his commitment to serving our city and look forward to his leadership in ensuring that Boston is a welcoming and inclusive place for all.”
Border IV comes to a new role in the city after completing his tenure as Principal of VTH & Madison, a consulting firm in Boston.
“What an opportunity to join the Board in this role at such a critical time in our city’s history,” John Borders IV, Director of Tourism, Sports, and Entertainment wrote in the news release. “As Boston’s story continues I’m excited to use Boston’s greatest asset — its people — to advance the great work being done by so many people and expand what’s to come. The potential is endless and the best parts of Boston will be showcased like never before.”
Borders IV is a native of Dorchester. In his new place with the city, he is planning to establish special events run by people, to make deep cooperation with several organizations such as the chamber of commerce and to manage films and TV in the city.
