BOSTON – Marriage, in general, is associated with good health. But family conflict can be harmful.
Ohio State University researchers studied 42 same-sex couples who had been together for about 12 years.
They tested their blood for signs of inflammation and raised small blisters or sores on each loved one’s arm.
They found that when the spouses talked to each other in bad ways, both spouses, especially the women, suffered depression, had high inflammation, and their wounds took a long time to heal, showing that their immune system was weak.
They say couples can learn good communication skills to reduce negative, inappropriate interactions.
