The Spice Girls are said to be reuniting at King Charles’ coronation.
The multi-million-selling girl group – which is made up of Geri Halliwell, Mel B, Victoria Beckham, Melanie C, and Emma Bunton – met Prince Charles several times during their heyday in the 1990s and even when they didn’t act. Five seasons on from the 2012 London Olympics, royal organizers say they are “very keen” to get the whole team ready to take part in the upcoming celebrations in May.
A source told The Sun’s Fabulous magazine: “Royal organizers are desperate to secure Britain’s biggest girl group and the Spice Girls are seriously considering returning to the stage as part of such a historic event. Indeed, the truth is. The Coronation is as special as The Olympics – a once-in-a-lifetime celebration and a special event.”
At the height of their careers, the “Wannabe” hitmakers met Prince Charles at the time, and Mel B and Geri broke royal rules by kissing him on the cheek and patting him on the floor and telling him he was “promiscuous”.
After leaving the group in 1998, Geri – also known as Ginger Spice – performed ‘Happy Birthday To You’ for the heir to the throne on his 50th birthday.
The insider went on to explain that there is “suggestion” that a reunion could take place at the “significant” event – the first of which has not been held in Britain since Queen Elizabeth’s accession in 1953 – and said band members Melanie C and Mel B are “trying to make it happen.”
The claims come just days after “I Want You Back” hitmaker Mel teased that a new project was on the way for the band – who last reunited for a 2019 tour without Victoria – but couldn’t say exactly what it was.
He said: “I can’t tell you exactly, but there will be something that will be announced soon. Maybe I should just say something. It is a job that we love very much. let’s be all five.”
